14 credits towards the Certificate in Classical Architecture (Wash Rendering) | 14 AIA CES Learning Units|Elective
This advanced-level course introduces the traditional techniques of hand-drawn rendering as a way of learning about and presenting architectural designs. Participants will draw a simple elevation of an existing classical building and look at the underlying geometry and design principles. Following this, shadows will be cast using plan and section to reveal the three-dimensional form. Looking closely at the color and texture of materials, the elevation will be rendered using watercolor and gouache. Emphasis will be placed on the mixing and application of colors to achieve a finished rendering that communicates the design with accuracy and life. The process will be broken down into a manageable series of steps which can be applied to projects of various size and complexity.
This is an advanced-level course. Architectural hand drawing skills and a basic understanding of watercolor painting will be helpful. Previous experience with architectural rendering, or completion of a wash rendering during an 黑料头条 Continuing 黑料头条 course, Intensive, or Summer Studio is recommended.

Chris Draper is a UK based artist and illustrator. His work has been widely published. His clients range have included Adam Architecture, Yiangou Architects, Stanhope Gate, Craig Hamilton, Arne Maynard Garden Design, Knight Frank, The Princes Foundation, The Royal Navy, Demitri Porphyrios Architects, Kim Wilke Landscape Design, Rolls Royce Heritage Trust, and Oliver Laws Interiors. Trained as an architect, he brings a passion and understanding of traditional architectural and urban form, human scale, and the tactile qualities of materials to his watercolor and gouache, oil, and acrylic paintings. His work has been recognized with awards for architectural design, illustration, and fine art.

Individuals will be randomly selected two weeks before the course begins, and all sign-ups will be notified via email.
